Bumpin’ on Sunset is an original song by seminal jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery that first appeared on his 1966 LP ‘Tequila’. In contrast to Montgomery’s many swinging performances, this song has a straight eighth note feel throughout. The (A) section, is a bluesy Latin-tinged vamp on an A minor seventh chord. The (B) section provides a sense of release with its melodies harmonized with additional chords. Bumpin’” is a wide open canvas for your improvisational ideas including blues scales, minor scales, chord inversions and other ideas to play off the rhythm and minor colors of the harmony.
