Take Five is an iconic jazz standard composed by saxophonist Paul Desmond originally recorded in 1959 by the Dave Brubeck Quartet for their Columbia LP, Time Out. Take Five is known for its distinctive two-chord vamp and catchy,cool-jazz saxophone melody. The title comes from the use the tune’s 5/4 time signature which, at the time, was considered very unusual and innovative.  While somewhat challenging to play at speed, it makes a very cool instrumental for lap steel.
