“Secret Love” was composed by Sammy Fain (music) and Paul Francis Webster (lyrics) for Calamity Jane, a 1953 musical film in which it was introduced by Doris Day in the title role. It became a number one hit for Day on both the USA and U.K. The song has been covered by many vocalists and instrumentalists and is a particular favorite with steel guitarists such as pedal steel legend Buddy Emmons, who recorded it several times with jazz guitarist Lenny Breau, and contemporary non-pedal steeler Rose Sinclair, who included the song on her 2022 CD “Wave.”
