POOR SIDE OF TOWN is one of the best known pop hits of the 1960s. My arrangement for C6th lap steel, in the original key of E, reproduces some aspects of the original recording, such as a steel guitar harmonization of the intro vocal refrai, and the iconic country-flavored fill on the E chord., and paraphrases other aspects of the tune, including a cool triplet lick influenced by guitarist Johnny A’s great arrangement for solo electric standard guitar. The song lays out perfectly on the C6th lap steel tuning and is a lot of fun to play.
