“One Note Samba”, is a bossa nova and jazz standard song composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim with Portuguese lyrics by Newton Mendonça. This well-known song first reached a wide audience on the Grammy-winning bossa nova LP Jazz Samba by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd which reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200 in 1963.

My arrangement for lap steel is an interpretation of the tune where, in the [A] section, we substitute the original melody with a similar figure that follows a repeated pattern. The [B] and [C] sections substitute several measures of melody with rhythmic chordal passages played in bossa nova rhythm. The C Diatonic version matches the sheet music but harmonizes the melody in chords.

C6th Tuning (low to high): C E G A C E

C Diatonic Tuning (low to high) [E] F G A B C E

C Diatonic tuning as Jerry Byrd invented it, is a 7-string tuning but my arrangement is for the 6-string version with F on the bottom.
