My Heart Will Go On is the main soundtrack theme to James Cameron’s blockbuster film Titanic. The vocal version recorded by Canadian singer Celine Dion became a  global hit, topping the charts in over twenty countries.

While you can certainly play this arrangement as a ballad, as it was originally  conceived, my version was intended to re-imagine “My Heart Will Go On” as an up-tempo song in Surf Music style. I was completely influenced in this regard by the version played by the great surf band “Los Straitjackets” as well as the cool up-tempo Jackie Wilson-style and Doo Wop versions created by the band  “Post Modern Jukebox.”

This arrangement is simple and easy to play with mostly single notes. The power of a great composition, chord progression and most importantly  - a great melody, like this one, is that the song doesn’t need a lot of reharmonization or other  embellishments to make a satisfying lap steel instrumental.
