BLUE BAYOU was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. It was an international hit for Orbison in 1963 and later, became Linda Ronstadt’s signature song. It has a somewhat hypnotic vibe due to its repeated variation on the same melody and cycling V to I chord progression.
I’ve arranged Blue Bayou in the key of A in C6th tuning using a mix of single notes, thirds and double stop 6th intervals. Slant positions in 6th and 3rd intervals are slid together for a seamless, voice-like effect. Enjoy playing this beautiful and evocative song!
