“Baja” was the first RCA instrumental single for The Astronauts, a Colorado-based band often described as “the premier landlocked Midwestern Surf group of the ‘60s.” Many groups have covered the song over the years including The Blue Hawaiians, who added a spoken narrative to the tune about two surfers driving south to avoid the crowds at popular surf spots. It makes a fun tune to play on lap steel.
