ANGEL EYES is a 1946 popular song composed by Matt Dennis. Over the years, it’s become a jazz standard that has inspired many interpretations. “Angel Eyes” has a smokey, bluesy feel reminiscent of places like the New Orleans docks and “film noir” movies. My arrangement for C6th lap steel uses single notes for the first time through the [A] section. The 2nd time through, chordal passages against a constant C bass paraphrase the tune. Likewise, the [B] section paraphrases the melody with chordal guide tones (3rds and 7ths).The form is 32 bars with a 4-bar tag ending/outro.

Note: Midi audio usually sounds closer to a keyboard than a steel guitar but it is useful for demonstrating the rhythms, feel and overall intent of an arrangement or musical passage. Make this music come alive on your steel guitar!
