The Shadow of Your Smile was written by Johnny Mandel with lyrics written by Paul Francis Webster for the 1965 film “The Sandpiper”. It won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year and the Academy Award for Best Original Song. It has since become a standard and a favorite of jazz musicians. This arrangment for 8-string electric steel guitar uses the version of C6th with A and F notes on the two lowest strings - a version identical to the middle 8 strings of the pedal steel version of C6th. This tuning that offers a beautiful major 7th chord voicing on the bottom four strings. Because the open strings 4-8 form an Fmaj7, this tuning could also be called C6th/Fmaj7.
