The Big Hurt is a pop song written by Wayne Shanklin and was a hit for vocalist Toni Fisher in 1959.  “The Big Hurt” is notable because it featured phasing effects which at that time, were rare in popular music. The song has been covered many times - most notably, by steel guitarist Gary Brandin  on his CD “The Vanduaras”and by Wes Montgomery, whose improvisations took the song to new rhythmic and melodic heights. My arrangement pays homage to both the lush melodic approach of Brandin and the exciting rhythmic syncopations of Montgomery.

Note: Midi audio usually sounds closer to a keyboard than a steel guitar but it is useful for demonstrating the rhythms, feel and overall intent of an arrangement or musical passage. Make this music come alive on your steel guitar!
