Maid with the Flaxen Hair was composed by Claude Debussy for his first book of piano Préludes between late 1909 and early 1910. The French title,  La Fille Aux Cheveux de Lin, roughly translates to “The Girl (or Maid) with the Flaxen Hair. The composition remains one of Debussy’s most beloved compositions - both in its original piano arrangement and in versions adapted for many other instruments. The Dmaj7 tuning is a simple variation on Open D. By merely lowering the first string 1/2 step from D to C#, you are afforded a new palette of sounds and chordal possibilities. In addition to access to new major and minor seventh chord voicings, there are wonderful pedal point possibilities with drones in the treble against lower register melodies in this tuning. My arrangement was heavily influenced by standard guitar arrangements by Ted Greene and Johnny Smith, both absolute masters of chord melody arranging.
