“Fields of Gold” is a song written and recorded by Sting (Gordon Sumner). It first appeared on his 1993 album Ten Summoner’s Tales. This beautiful tune tells a story of commitment and time. It is about a man who has broken promises before, but is determined make this relationship last. Many artists have covered the song., most notably, Eva Cassidy who recorded a version which first appeared on her 1996 live album “Live at Blues Alley”. My arrangement is based on using arpeggios to flesh out the song’s chord progression and the use of Dadd9th tuning to bring an added feeling of openness and richness to the harmony.

Dadd9 tuning is identical to Open D except that the 4th string is raised one whole step from D to E, the 9th note of the D major scale. This both facilitates playing certain note combinations and also adds a certain richness to the full chord sound.

Dadd9th TUNING:

              STRING # 6   5  4   3  2   1

                   NOTES: D A E F# A D

       SCALE DEGREE:       1 5 9 3 5 1
