Surfin‘ Tragedy is in the strange late ‘50s, early ‘60s tradition of teenage tragedy ballads.  Disc Jockey’s used terms like “tear jerkers,” “death discs” or “splatter platters” when they played songs such as “Last Kiss” and “Tell Laura I Love Her.” Surfin Tragedy took on new life as a surf instrumental covered by Bob Vaught & The Renegades and notably, in the 1990s by the Blue Hawaiians on their CD Live at the Lava Lounge. It makes a catchy, fun, easy-to-play lap steel instrumental. My arrangement in A6th tuning changes the structure a bit from the original version and adds a vamp used in the Blue Hawaiian’s version of the song.

A6th tuning is an easy tweak from C6th tuning using the same string set.
