The Royal Poinciana is a favorite Caribbean flowering plant and the title of the song, POINCIANA composed in 1936 by Nat Simon with lyrics by Buddy Bernier. “Poinciana” has become a Latin jazz standard. Pianist Ahmad Jamal – whose version was introduced on the 1958 album “At the Pershing” - made it his theme song. It’s been recorded by Frank Sinatra, George Shearing, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, and many other pop and jazz musicians and vocalists. While arranged here for the 6-string version of A6th, it’s easily playable in 8-string A6th as well as B11th tuning. For 8-string A6th, tune string #7 to A and string #8 to F#.

Note: Midi audio usually sounds closer to a keyboard than a steel guitar but it is useful for demonstrating the rhythms, feel and overall intent of an arrangement or musical passage. Make this music come alive on your steel guitar!
