William Leon McAuliffe was a member of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys during the 1930s and 40s and one of the pioneers of electric steel guitar playing in America. He helped compose “San Antonio Rose” and popularized “Steel Guitar Rag.” Along with guitarist Eldon Shamblin, McAuliffe was a key figure in putting Western Swing on the musical map.

McAuliffe was a hard-swing steel player with great facility on blues-based material. Leon’s Boogie is classsic boobie woogie tune. McAuliffe combines precise, but swinging single note lines with chordal moves in the 2nd chorus - all over a 12-bar blues chord progression in the key of Bb.

Note: Midi audio usually sounds closer to a keyboard than a steel guitar but it is useful for demonstrating the rhythms, feel and overall intent of an arrangement or musical passage. Make this music come alive on your steel guitar!
