Freight Train is an American folk song written by Elizabeth Cotten and popularized during the American folk revival. She composed “Freight Train” as a teenager (sometime between 1906 and 1912), inspired by the sound of the trains rolling in on the tracks near her home in North Carolina. It remains a popular tune for finger style guitarists.

My version for acoustic lap steel guitar attempts to translate the flavor of folk fingerpicking styles mixed with slides and ringing open strings. For the second time through, we introduce a few fancy licks to spice things up.
