Banish Misfortune is a 3-part jig from Ireland. Banish Misfortune is a modal tune that presents an overall tonality via the use of diatonic scales that aren’t necessarily major or minor. Banish Misfortune is popular with fiddlers, pipers and tin whistle players alike and, as is typical with folk sources, there are multiple versions as players have interpreted the melody in various ways over more than one hundred years. On acoustic steel in Open D, it makes a fine solo performance piece. On electric steel in C6th tuning, it represents something of a departure from the standard repertoire and also makes a great technical picking exercise.
